Nonprofits Make your Values come Alive

This end-of-the-year "Find an Organization Working on Behalf of Your Values"

Today, I heard a quote that made me stop to write it down:
“Find an organization working on behalf of your values and donate to it.”

It sounds simple, but it lit up something in me, a reminder of why we give, especially at the end of the year. The truth is, most of us care deeply about so many causes and see so much need around us. We care about the planet, about children, about justice, about the arts, about people struggling to survive in our communities or even abroad... But our days are full. Between school, work, family, kids, and the constant swirl of responsibilities, there are only so many volunteer hours and even mental energy we can give to these causes.

That’s why we choose to support nonprofits through our donations instead. Not only because we simply don't have the time to give to so many worthy causes, but also because we are deeply aligned with the work they do, and they do have the time to show up every day for this cause. Our donation is how we vote for the kind of world we want to live in.

So if you don't already give to nonprofits, take a moment to reflect on what really matters to you.
What are your core values?
What do you want to see thrive in our society?
And just as importantly, what do you feel is most at risk?

Then find nonprofits in your area, your country, or even around the world that are working on solving for these things.

Maybe you want to support the experiences that nourish our humanity, such as arts, music, literature, and creative expression. For others, it might be education, the environment, mental health, human rights or protecting vulnerable communities. Whatever it is, start there. Let your giving flow from your personal value system.

Our donations are small acts of hope, tiny investments in a better society. When we give to nonprofits, we’re saying: “I see you doing work that matters to me, and I want you to be able to continue that work".

I want the next generation to understand this concept of "giving to what you believe in" deeply. I want them to know that giving isn’t just for the wealthy or retired. It’s for everyone. Whether it’s $5, $50, or $5000, whether it’s a one-time gift or a recurring donation, each act of giving builds the culture of community, care, and compassion that we all want to live in.

So as we prepare for the end of the year, I’ll leave you with the same thought that inspired me:
Find an organization working on behalf of your values and donate anything you can to it. TODAY!
Give what you can.
Share their mission with your network.
Help build a world that reflects what you care about most.

Because generosity isn’t just an act, it’s how we shape the world we want to live in.
